History
In 1886, the people of Trout Creek, Pine Creek, Mill Creek and Beef River valleys decided to build a church. It cost $1,207.00. The dedication ceremony for St. Luke Reformed Church, printed in the September 30, 1886, Buffalo County Journal, described a large gathering of people with an “…excellent repast for such under a large tent and everything was pleasant. The weather could not have been better and the deacons were well-rewarded when they passed the plate. The congregation is called in German ‘Reformierte Kirche.’” The church cemetery was established in 1888.
In 1949, St. Luke joined St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in Alma, which became St. Paul & St. Luke United Church of Christ in 1957. The former St. Luke Reformed Church is now Tell Church. The Tell Church is open for worship each year during the months of June and September.
